Persatuan Pengusaha Logam dan Barang-Barang Kitar Semula India Malaysia (Mimta) meminta kerajaan memberi kelulusan untuk membawa masuk pekerja asing bagi subsektor logam, barang lusuh dan kitar semula.

Presidennya, P Krishna Murthi berkata sektor itu kini memerlukan sekurang-kurangnya 10,000 pekerja asing.

“Ketiadaan pekerja asing memberi kesan besar kepada sektor ini, ramai pengusaha telah mula meninggalkan sektor ini.

“Ini kerana mereka mula menghadapi kesan pendapatan kerana kekurangan tenaga kerja. Untuk memulihkan semula industri ini, kami memerlukan 10,000 pekerja asing.

“Harap, kerajaan segera menghapuskan pembekuan pekerja asing untuk industri kita,” katanya kepada pemberita di Kuala Lumpur, hari ini.

Untuk rekod, pengambilan pekerja asing untuk subsektor itu telah dibekukan sejak 2009.

THE Malaysian Indian Metal Traders and Recyclers Association has called for immediate action to address the severe worker shortage faced by its members, Malaysia Nanban reported.

 

Its chief secretary S. Muthappan said members had been dealing with the problem for 10 years.

“Our members contribute to the economy and pay taxes too. We only ask for about 10,000. This is not a lot compared to the one million foreign workers reportedly given to various industries,” he added.

 

He said members would prefer to source labour from India’s Tamil Nadu to avoid language barriers.

Muthappan said some 70% of the foreign workers hired earlier had returned home.

“They went back for holiday or for other seasons, but have been unable to come back to Malaysia for work.

“The remaining 30% are also returning home progressively,” he said at the association’s seventh annual general meeting in Ipoh.

28 April 2022 – I take this opportunity to thank and convey our gratitude to our Honorable Minister Datuk Seri M.Saravanan, the Honorable MIC President Tan Sri Dato’Sri Dr. SA.Vigneswaran,MIMTA President Dato’Seri Dr.Krishnamoorthy, Dato’ Seri Dr.Tamil Selvam, Hon.Secretary Mr.Muttapan and the entire MIMTA team for endlessly striving to unfreeze our sector by the government enabling us to finally recruit Foreign Labour from 15 designated countries including India as per our request.

It was indeed a result of numerous meetings and discussion of plead held between the respected Honorable Minister Datuk Seri M.Saravanan and Tan Sri Vikneswaran along with our team from MIMTA headed by both our Dato’ Seri Dr. Krishnamoorthy & Dato’ Seri Dr.Tamil Selvam.

Finally, we now have won the first stage of the battle for the betterment of all our Indian Metal Traders through MIMTA by the means of uplifting the freeze of foreign workers employment for the scrap metal sector.

Thank you once again to the entire team and I request all our members to share this proud news to all fellow scrap metals dealers and now urge them to join hands with us through MIMTA to be assisted with the application process.

Nevertheless, it has been clearly proven that only MIMTA can and will voice out for the entire Indian Metal Traders to the government and we “WILL WALK OUR TALK”

20 July 2022 – On behalf of MIMTA headed by Dato’ Seri Tami Selvam, Hon.Secretary Mr.Muttapan and myself, a meeting session with Mr.Prashant Kumar of High Commission of India (LABOUR ATTACHE) was held today to discuss on the recruitment of manpower from India for our scrap metal industry in accordance to the unfreezing of our sector by the Ministry of Human Resources and Home Ministry yesterday.

MIMTA had immediately started working on all necessary measures and actions needed to be taken to begin the process of recruitment from India. In the discussion today with High Commission of India personnel, we have been requested to sign an MOU with NSDC (National Skill Development Corporation) of India which will be done after we do our due diligence of the agreement.

KUALA LUMPUR – Persatuan Pengusaha Logam dan Barang-Barang Kitar Semula India Malaysia (MIMTA) meminta kerajaan memberi kelulusan untuk membawa masuk pekerja asing dalam sektor kitar semula di Malaysia.

Setiausahanya, Datuk V Malarvanan berkata, kelulusan terakhir yang diterima daripada Kementerian Dalam Negeri untuk membawa masuk pekerja asing bagi sektor tersebut ialah pada 2009.


Menurutnya, persatuan berkenaan mempunyai lebih 1,500 ahli yang menjalankan perniagaan secara kecil-kecilan dan besar-besaran namun 500 daripadanya hampir gulung tikar kerana tiada pekerja.

“Ketika ini persatuan memerlukan kira-kira 7,000 pekerja asing untuk bekerja dalam sektor pekerjaan yang sukar, kotor dan berbahaya (3D) bagi meneruskan perniagaan masing-masing.
